Hold the phone, before you are booking a flight to Maui you need to consider one thing very carefully and ask this question: Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Are you cut out to be fabulously wealthy?
To get a better idea of where you stand consider the following five characteristics. Do you or Can you:
-Hang tight when it looks like nothing is happening? Starting a business is heady stuff, adrenaline, joy and excitement will be your constant companions for days, maybe even weeks.
Eventually however you will fall from the clouds. Then reality sinks in, you are working as much if not more than you were before to keep the business going and there are no cool hormones to help you out. To make matters worse there are not any fruits of your labor yet to keep you motivated and moving forward.
Answer me just one question: Will you keep at something even if pay off is delayed? If you can honestly answer in the affirmative then you may have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.
-Lose the failing idea? Your time is vital as is your energy and when you have invested heavily in a concept it can feel like your baby. For all intents and purposes it is your brain child.
When a bad idea is dragging your ship down with all its cargo what do you do? Sometimes ideas simply do not work out and you must turn loose. Are you prepared to do what is necessary for the good of the whole? If you can lay your love for the idea down you may be a great entrepreneur.
-Believe in yourself and your capabilities? There will be those who doubt you, unbelievably some will be your own family. They may cajole you, laugh or even berate you for what you are doing. If they can get to you the chances of you succeeding just went from slim to none.
Do you have faith in your ideas and capabilities? If yes you may have the makings of an entrepreneur.
- Value your service or product correctly? Here is a problem that many new comers have, they will work like a dog for practically nothing. This happens many times because of the value they have placed on the product or service. It gets in their mind that they could never afford to pay a certain amount and therefore they sell themselves too cheaply.
When you do this you are putting yourself in place of the customer and that is not where you need to be. Concentrate on providing the best possible product or service that adds value to peoples lives and then charge accordingly. When you overvalue your business they will let you know, don't worry!
If the customers are not out for blood about your prices relax and enjoy business. You have valued your product or service correctly and are on the way to being a great entrepreneur.
-Solve difficulties? Last but not least, do you offer something that solves a problem?
Problems are a part of life and this is doubly true when you are an entrepreneur, because you are the end of the line. You have become the boss and that means you are responsible for solving the problems in your business. Be quick to find and solve any problems and you are ahead of the game.
The biggest reason you really need to have good problem solving skills is your customers. When you have a knack for solving problems you will never be short on customers. In fact you will be one of the greatest entrepreneurs.
